What is a responsive web design? Good question, and the answer is important if you want your web site to be visible and stable on any device. Put simply, a responsive design means that the layout automatically adjusts to present the best possible version of the site, whether on a desktop, a tablet or a mobile.
Any website that cannot achieve this will lose viewers - nobody wants to mess around trying to read something that is either too small or has mixed up with other elements of the layout - they'll just go elsewhere.
Not surprisingly, more than a half of all web views are achieved on a hand-held device, as office desktops become less and less important.
This does mean a lot more work than just designing for a single screen format, although editing software is able to address this and take away a great deal of the hassle.
